“The artist was inspired by the sky maiden legend from the Tausugs and also the Indonesians. The story is about a sky maiden who got trapped on Earth. She suffered from depression and abuse. A few years went by, and she found her wings. Only then she got to go back to heaven. The artist wanted to promote women’s liberation, as well as the Muslim culture that they are not only beautiful with their conservative clothing but also rich in culture and traditions.”
