Existentialism in Simulation and Reality by Mak Ying Tung 2

"To what extent can simulated replacements compensate the void of actuality?" The exhibition Home Sweet Home asks this question as we immerse ourselves in the made-up reality of Mak Ying Tung 2's work. Mak's interdisciplinary body of works include installations, paintings, and videos. Her work simulates reality to inspect existential notions of the post-modern human being. It is, at the same time, a commentary on how virtuality has come to comprise her home that is Hong Kong. With dream-like environments, simulations are turned to realities on each canvas putting into question how we use virtual identities and realities to escape the truth that keeps us all in the void.
