Through the years, the Indonesian political landscape has changed and with these changes come the ideals of the country’s people. In Zico Albaiquini’s “Nostalgic Utopia,” the artist explores the idealized versions of Indonesia through various imageries such as historical figures. The exhibition follows Albaiquini’s unconventional perspective, ultimately disrupting the borders that define a canvas with bright hues under experimental genres. Through the exhibition, it is possible to trace the similarities between colonial and post-war Indonesia, bringing to light how the artist, the artworks, the viewers, and art history reveal one another.
