As a child, with our home being near grandmother’s house, I grew up around cabinets that contained these garments. In 2009, I began to gather their stories one by one—choosing garments and asking their owners and wearers to tell me about them. I interviewed my mother, Elisa, and her twin sister, aunt Laura. I cannot remember precisely who said which specific detail. They both made recollections while I tried to capture those in my notes. Through unfolding these dresses, I was able to extract stories about my family history. The following narratives that can be found here are stories about a hundred dresses.
