This exhibition is a move towards the fundamental. The title, Pneuma, is an ancient Greek concept which has been popularly interpreted as 'soul,’ ‘breath,’ or ‘spirit’ through the centuries.
While the exact meaning of the concept has differed across various traditions of thought, pneuma has consistently been understood as that which constitutes one’s core: an intrinsic, generative force that breathes life and creativity.
The works of Niel Atienza, Expi Perez, and Yas Sehob reflect this turn inwards. Melding abstraction and figuration, they contemplate the innate forces that propel their respective artistic practices and locate the drivers of their processes in memory, haste, and longing.
