Aldy Aguirre: Stories to Tell

Stories take flight into worlds that are wholly their own in Aldy Aguirre’s Solo Online Release with Cartellino: Stories to Tell.

The artist takes his cue from an enduring affinity with storytelling, having been an illustrator of children’s books for well over a decade. But if there is anything that all the plotlines he has drawn and authored have taught him, it is that the tale is never only his own.

“It's really beautiful that people can create their own story so different from mine. That artworks can speak and connect to different people. It means a lot to me more than anything else that my artworks remind people of certain feelings or memories,” he shares.

The collection thus responds to the multiplicity of stories contained in Aguirre’s famed watercolor works. He crafts each of his paintings with a narrative in mind. But once out for the viewer to see, he sets it free.

It is a multiplicity that alludes to his medium, as unpredictable as watercolor with its pigment that blots and spreads of its own accord. The present series thus sees Aguirre work with the medium’s agency through ten pieces. Together they render dreamlands in colorful haze, an affinity with the skies wherein our stories, promises, and wishes reside.

From here, the plotline unfolds into a myriad of tales, each woven from a collaboration between medium, artist, and audience. Pigment that has a multitude of stories to tell through its washes, glazes, and strokes—all contained within Aguirre’s watercolor dreamscapes.
