It's not every day that you get the chance to see a Banksy work in the flesh. Starting December 20, 2019, to March 1, 2020, Banksy's works will be available for viewing at PORTAL 6311, FTLife Tower, Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong. The exhibition—aptly called Genius or Vandal—gives people the upper hand to decide for themselves whether or not the anonymous artist is so.
The name without a face, Banksy, has made huge changes in the contemporary art scene, especially with the street art movement. The iconoclastic artist's works have been controversial not only for its subject but also with the way he has chosen to express his art with which is graffiti. Banksy: Genius or Vandal will exhibit 70 works organized into various thematic sections including original works, sculptures, installations, videos, and photographs from private collections. At the exhibition, the viewers may see the original silkscreen of the Girl with Balloon series, similar to the one shredded at the Sotheby’s London auction house after being sold for about $1.4 million.
To see his works and visions live in this exhibition is one of a kind experience for anyone who may or may not be a fan of the British artist. This exhibition may be just another Banksy initiative to understand neoliberalism or simply an effort to extend his works to the other side of the world. Either way, we all know that we're there for more than just another unprecedented act from Banksy himself. No one really knows what's waiting for us at a Banksy exhibition.
