Poeleen Alvarez is a visual artist based in Bulacan, Philippines. Her collages and intermedia work draw inspiration from the visual culture and rhetoric of popular media.
With a predilection toward art history, she approaches her work with theories on appropriation, visual communication, and Rod Paras-Perez’s concept of the Filipino Baroque – the aesthetic affinity for boisterous colors and gaudy ornamentation. Her training in printmaking, ceramics, and digital arts inform her practice.
Poeleen Alvarez earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Painting (2018) and Art History (2020) from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. She has participated in several group exhibitions with galleries such as Mono8, Galerie Stephanie, and Altro Mondo. She also teaches handbuilt ceramics at Tahanan Pottery Shop & School.
