Julieanne Ng's interest in incorporating ready-made objects relates to her identity as a Chinese-Filipino. When she began taking her thesis, instead of complaining about the noise around her neighborhood, she started to view this as an opportunity. She surrendered herself to the environment and began to see them as more than just commodity goods, but as materials that has a lot of potential to be used for her practice. What captivated her the most is how thousands of mass produced objects, when combined repeatedly can evoke an experience for the audience. In line with this, she also finds the act of combining and repeating the process as a form of meditation—a practice that requires concentration as each of her work demands attention to details. Furthermore, it serves as a reflection in finding balance in a highly urbanized city.
